What's It All Mean, Brother?

by Rob Tunstall

/

about

My friend asked me to write a song for his film:

The requirement was that it had to sound like it would have been a hit in the 80s.

lyrics

Teardrops on your face
Rolling down at a snail's pace
Newspaper said there'll be no time for dreams tomorrow

And out in the hall
Swore I heard you call
Singing that same old song you used to sing

And so I
Turn up the radio
Throw my jacket on
Head to the old man's
Favorite watering hole
Sit at the counter
Call the girl over
She knows just what I need

Say
Remember when we used to play along?
Do you remember what you said?
You said we'd always be friends
I heard you causing a scene
But brother what's it all mean?
When you turned it off
You turned your back on me

Liquor in my throat
Giving me what I need the most
Forecast said I'll be holding my head tomorrow

And so I
Turn off the radio
Grab my driving gloves
Fire up the engine
Shooting down the road
Going where no one
Knows to follow me
Except your little voice

You
I remember you were so alone
Sleeping in that empty bed
With your headphones on
You said we'd meet in a dream
Well brother, what's it all mean?
When you turned it off
You turned back into me

Turn up the radio
Throw my jacket on
Head to the old man's
Favorite watering hole
Sit at the counter
Call the girl over
Don't have to ask
She knows just what I need
Turn off the radio
Grab my driving gloves
Fire up the engine
Shooting down the road
Going where no one
Knows to follow me
Your little voice knows
What's in front of me
